Movie Review: Secret

Secret is a romance film directed by Taiwanese singer-heartthrob Jay Chou. Chou is also the male lead in the movie, he co-wrote the story, and most of the songs used in the movie are his compositions. (Yes, he is a mutant genius gifted guy.)

Okay, I'm not gonna tell you what exactly the movie is all about for you to enjoy your viewing experience. From the movie title itself, you should know that there is a secret, but of course, that's for you to find out. No spoiler.

The movie has a simple but beautiful story, packed with beautiful cinematography and brilliant music. There are some scenes that are "supposed" to be draggy but because of the beautiful music background, they become unnoticeable.

For the acting, the female lead Kwai Lun-mei did a great job in portraying her character, her presence gives refreshing mood. In the latter part of the film, she was able to deliver the heartbreaking scenes perfectly, genuine emotions were there. Meanwhile, our hero Jay Chou or Xianglun was a so-so in his acting. But I can't deny his piano skills and charm absolutely suit his character. I love the piano battle scene, he totally kicked ass there.

My favorite scenes—Xiaoyu writes on her desk using snopake (correction fluid/white wash). I thought I was watching a horror movie. I was freaking out when Xianglun sees her message and I was like, "Omg, she's a ghost!" (But nope, she's not). And the ending part, when Xianglun plays the piano while the building is being torn down, I almost had a heart attack, I thought he wouldn't make it. What an intense scene, seeing those blood drops, I thought he died before he could travel back. (Oops! Did I just give a hint?)
Rating: 9/10. It should have been 10 if not for the logical gaps, which are not so obvious until you watch it again.
