Movie Review: Ghost: In Your Arms Again

Ghost is a Japanese remake of the 1990 Hollywood film with the same title which starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. The remake stars Song Seung-heon and Matsushima Nanako.

Hoshino Nanami (Matsushima Nanako), a successful young entrepreneur meets a Korean potter Kim Jun-ho (Song Seung-heon). They fall in love and soon marry each other. They spend the happiest time of their lives until tragedy happens. On her birthday, Nanami encounters an accident and is killed. Unable to leave her devastated husband, she chooses to stay on earth as a ghost.

Honestly, I watched this movie because of the actors. The male lead is no other than our ultimate oppa, Korean hearththrob Song Seung-heon, while the female lead is played by our onee-chan from Hana Yori Dango Matsushima Nanako.

We've seen Song Seung-heon and Matsushima Nanako in numerous dramas (Actually, I only got to see two of her dramas but I really like her. She's so inspiring in Bijo Ka Yajuu), we know that they'll definitely do good in this film.

Song and Matsushima got a good on-screen chemistry and are really sweet in their romantic scenes. Kirin Kiki's character, psychic Unten balances the mood in the film. It's good to have good laughs in between serious scenes. The ghost child is also cute and adorable.

The plot is predictable, it's easy to guess who's behind the murder, and you can tell what the ending will be. I don't like the sequencing, it seems that it's not properly arranged, and it affects the emotional parts. Should we blame it to the editing? For the music, I like the theme song Ashiteru but why only play it in the ending part (as in the last 30 seconds)? And I think, it should have been better if they chose another song instead of  Righteous Brothers' Unchained Melody. This remake was made for Asian audience, they even cut and changed some scenes to adjust it to the Asian culture, so why use western song?  I have nothing against the song, it's just that it doesn't suit this version.

Rating: 7/10
