So last night I started watching Love Rain, and I am surprised that this drama is not as bad as I thought. To be honest, I was hesitant to watch it because of the main leads. Seriously, Jang Geun Seuk and Yoona? Nah. But since TK2H has already ended, and I was discouraged to watch Fashion King because of its (wtf) tragic ending, I am giving this one a chance.
Okay, so let's start with episode 1. If In Ha fell in love with Yoon Hee within 3 seconds, I think this drama got me in 50 seconds. With its beautiful cinematography and music, I couldn't help but fall instantly. In the first few scenes, classic songs are played. First, is a Korean acoustic love song, and then, as In Ha watches Yoon Hee from the window, the song from the film Love Story plays. "Where do I begin. To tell the story of how great a love can be..." Romantic, isn't it? Conveying emotions through music, is quite effective for the first few episodes.
In Ha and Yoon Hee keep bumping into each other. Destiny?...must be. One instance is when they met one rainy day. She didn't have an umbrella so he offered his. Then they shared one 'broken' umbrella as they walked down the pathways. And since rain is always romantic, this scene is sweeet!
The problem is....his friend likes the same girl. Aw. In Ha gives way to his friend Dong Wook.
He tries to suppress his feelings but he just can't, and now it's becoming obvious.
She finds her portraits in his workshop. She's happy to learn that he also likes her. But he says those portraits mean nothing. She just happened to be in the scenery he painted. Ouch. And that breaks her heart.
The whole gang goes on a trip. Dong Wook asks In Ha to sing the song he composed for his 3-second girl. In Ha sings Sarangbi. The song tells about a boy who meets a girl on a rainy day. Yep, it's their story. This guy is just romantic as always. "Lalala lala....Lalala lala la..sarangbi".
In Ha announces he's leaving for the army, and everyone is surprised. Yoon Hee goes for a walk.
He goes to Yoon Hee to talk to her. She asks if he's leaving because of her. He says no. He really wanted to go because everything is just too complicated for him. And then, he finally confesses his feelings. What he said about the paintings were all lies. It's not that she happened to be in the scenery, it's because she's his scenery that day.
"Ever since the first time I met you, my scenery was always you. It was a beautiful scene, and it always fluttered my heart. Thank you. And I'm sorry for being coward."
Yoon Hee follows In Ha in his sketch trip when she learned that In Ha is going home in his hometown and is not coming back until his service. She fears that she won't be seeing him again.
They missed the last train to Seoul so they took the night train to East Sea instead and went to the beach.
He has decided not to leave anymore, but things just don't go right. He gets arrested for allegedly composing an activist song. He doesn't have a choice but to enlist in the army. Meanwhile, Yoon Hee finds out that she has tuberculosis and it's in serious stage. She goes to the US to get treatment and promises herself to get well and come back.
"I believe that this love has not ended yet."
Then we jump to the present....Jang Geun Suk and Yoon Ah now play the son and daughter of In Ha and Yoon Hee.
How I wish they just stayed in the 70's. Jang Geun Suk is more handsome in retro look than in punky/emo style. Btw, I'd like to warn you, this drama has a tendency of boring you because of its slow pacing and predictable conflicts. Though I like this drama , I think it's not the kind that I'll get addicted to.
The most moving part for me is the last scene in episode 4. It is when Dong Wook tells In Ha to wait for Yoon Hee, that she'll definitely come back if she gets better so he should wait. Aw. He is indeed a true friend. And then, In Ha cries. That kills me.
