It's been 5 years since the first time I watched this movie. It may not be the best of the best movies but it is one of those I watch over again every once in a while. It never fails to captivate my heart. This film is sad, romantic, sad, action and sad.
It has a powerhouse cast, story written by Kwak Jae Yong, the one behind My Sassy Girl, The Classic and Windstruck, and it's under the direction of Hongkong director Andrew Lau, notable for his action and crime films. What more to ask from this movie.
The story revolves around Hye Young, a young painter who works at her grandfather's antique shop and also does portraits sketching in the street. She has an admirer who regularly sends her daisies. One day, she meets Jeong Woo, an Interpol agent, who she mistakenly believes to be the daisy guy. On the sideline is Park Yi, the real admirer/ stalker/ the daisy guy, a hitman who got attracted to Hye Young ever since he saw her painting daisies in the countryside.
The film is more on the romantic, melodrama side than the action side which disappoints some audience. With the premise—hitman &a cop fight over love and law, we expect action with some drama but it is actually the reverse. It is a sappy melodrama with some action, and I have no problem with that. Overall, I like the movie. For me, it is stunning, from the actors—to the writing—to the production.
I am not sure if it is the writer's or the director's style but I like the voice over. Instead of having lengthy dialogues, the characters narrate and we get the story. We get captivated, we feel the emotions even without much dialogues. It is like watching a music video. But the problem with this film is that everything is narrated, nothing is left for suspense.
Rating: 8/10
